Fieldnote K65, a compact mechanical keyboard
Built for the long draft.
An aluminium keyboard tuned to sound soft and feel steady through a full day of writing. Type anything and watch the keys.Tap a key on the keyboard to press it.
Case
Six degrees, and no feet to fold out.
The case is milled from one block of aluminium with the typing angle built in, so it never wobbles or creeps across the desk. It weighs 1.6 kg, and a third of that is a brass weight you’ll never see.
Inside
Seven layers, each one there for the sound.
Hot-swap
Change a switch in ten seconds.
Every socket takes a switch without soldering. Pull one out with the tool in the box and push in another. Try all three of ours, or any switch with three or five pins.
Gasket mount
It gives a little under your fingers.
The plate floats on eight rubber gaskets instead of being screwed to the case. Each press flexes it a fraction of a millimetre, which is where the soft, even sound comes from.
Colourways
Three colourways, all anodised twice.
Every keycap is thick PBT plastic with dye-sublimated legends, so the letters won’t wear off or turn shiny, even after years of use.
Ten thousand words a day, and you stop noticing the keys. That’s the whole idea.
Every choice inside the K65 is about disappearing while you write.
Three switches, all tuned by hand.
Each one is lubricated in our workshop before it ships. Pick a feel below, then play a keystroke to hear it. Turn on Switch sound at the top of the page to hear every key you type.
Made with writers, not gamers.
We tested the K65 with twelve novelists, translators and reporters for a year. The keys got quieter and the angle got lower.
“It’s the first keyboard I haven’t noticed after an hour. Which is the whole point.”
